How to extract pages from a PDF or split it into single pages

Pick pages by ticking them or typing a range like 2, 4-5, then save them as one new PDF or as separate PDFs in a ZIP. Runs in your browser.

Open the Split or extract PDF pages tool

Your PDFs are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to any server.

Sometimes you need only part of a PDF: one signed page to send back, a chapter of a manual, or every page as its own file so each one can go to a different person. The Split PDF tool handles all of these. You choose the pages, then decide whether they go into one new PDF or into one PDF per page.

Two ways to save the pages

  • One PDF with the chosen pages. Use this to pull out a section or a handful of pages. The file is named after the original with -extracted added, for example manual-extracted.pdf.
  • A separate PDF for each chosen page. Use this to break a document into single pages. When this gives more than one file, all of them come in one ZIP download, such as manual-split.zip, with names like manual-page-03.pdf inside; page numbers get leading zeros so the files sort in page order. If you chose only one page, you get that single PDF instead of a ZIP.

Extract or split step by step

  1. Open the Split PDF tool.
  2. Choose your PDF with the file button, or drop it on the box. After a moment every page is listed with its number.
  3. Pick the pages. Tick the box for each page you want, use Select all pages, or type the pages in the Pages box.
  4. Under What to create, choose one PDF with the chosen pages, or a separate PDF for each page.
  5. Read the line above the start button. It says exactly what you will get, for example “You will get one PDF with 3 pages, in this order: 2, 4-5.”
  6. Press Split PDF, then press the download button to save the PDF or ZIP file.

Typing page numbers

The Pages box is the fastest way to pick pages in a long document. It accepts:

  • Single pages separated by commas: 1, 3, 7
  • Ranges with a dash: 12-20 gives pages 12 to 20.
  • A mix of both: 2, 4-5, 9
  • A backward range, which gives the pages in reverse: 5-3 gives pages 5, 4, and 3.

Pages are saved in the order you type them, so 3, 1, 2 makes a new PDF that starts with page 3. A page listed twice is used once. If you type a page that does not exist, such as page 12 in a 10-page PDF, or something that is not a page number, the box explains what is wrong and the tool will not start until you fix it.

Common tasks

  • Send back one page: type the page number, keep “One PDF with the chosen pages”, and split.
  • Keep one chapter: type its range, such as 14-29, and save it as one PDF.
  • Every page as its own file: press Select all pages, choose “A separate PDF for each chosen page”, and save the ZIP. Most systems open a ZIP when you double-click it.
  • Drop only a few pages: if you want to keep almost everything, the Delete PDF pages tool is quicker, because you tick the pages to remove instead.
  • Put pages from different files together: extract what you need from each file, then join the results with Merge PDF.

What stays the same

Pages are copied as they are. Text stays selectable, and nothing is turned into images or re-saved at a lower quality. Your original PDF is not changed: the tool only creates new files, and it does all of this in your browser tab.

If something goes wrong

  • The PDF is password-protected: remove the password in the app you use to open it, save a copy, and choose that copy.
  • “Choose at least one page to extract”: no page was picked when you pressed start. Tick at least one page or type one in the Pages box.
  • A very large file is slow: the whole PDF is held in your browser's memory while you work, so closing other tabs can help. Files over 300 MB are refused.
